先日、プラントハンター西畠清順さんの『世界7大陸植物園』に行ってきました。

西畠さんは日々収集している植物で、国内はもとより海外からの依頼を含め年間2,000件もの案件に応えています。

博多阪急がオープンした際にエントランスに満開の桜が飾られていたのを見ていた方はいらっしゃいますでしょうか。

あれは西畠さんが阪急から依頼され、 冬の間に集めた桜を温室で温度管理し、オープンの日に満開にさせたものです。

 

世界7大陸植物園には、そんな西畠さんが世界各地で収集した植物が展示されていました。

まず入口で来場者たちの目をひいたのは、パラボラッチョと呼ばれる 木です。

パラボラッチョとはスペイン語でお酒を飲みすぎて太ったおじさんと言う意味です。

たしかに膨らんだ幹の形が酔っぱらいのおなかのように見えます。 たぷたぷです。

    

 

このパラボラッチョは西畠さんがアルゼンチンとボリビアの国境付近で見つけ、現地の農場で養生し、6か月の栽培検査を経て日本へ飛行機で運ばれてきたもの だそうです。

他にも約4億年も前から生息する最古の植物・ディクソニア。

 

たわしのようなごつごつした幹がユーモラスなソテツワラビなど。うねうねしててキモカワイイ感じでした。

日本では流通の少ない希少価値の高い植物がたくさん展示されていました。

お部屋のインテリアとして、古代樹なんてのはどうでしょう。
